The world of Martian science was cock-a-hoop this morning, after NASA discovered incontrovertible evidence of life on Mars. The evidence was discovered by NASA's second "rover" vehicle, which arrived on Mars last week to search for signs of life. The rover has special sensors for detecting evidence such as crisp packets or bowling alleys, which would prove that life exists there.
The rover did not discover life itself, but instead found a vehicle which could only have been created by intelligent beings. From a brief examination of the vehicle, it is likely that it came from within our own Solar System.
Scientists have been trying to explain how such a vehicle could have come to be on Mars. One NASA spokesman, Stu Piddork, said, "The vehicle must have been constructed by intelligent beings from Mars or some neighbouring planet. We are clearly dealing with a very advanced alien race. We do not even have the technology ourselves to do what they have done." Mr Piddork said that he thought the aliens might live beneath the surface of Mars, in giant underground caverns.
He added, "It's just like in the 1970s when we went to the Moon and found all those golf buggies and golf balls there. Clearly we are dealing with an intergalactic race of leisurely middle-aged aliens."
