image for Joey Barton, Robbie Savage and John Terry pay tribute to Socrates
Joey Barton in trouble again after calling Socrates a 'deepthinker'

The football world was left dazed and confused this week after the untimely death of the legendary philosopher Socrates.

Born in 469 BC, Socrates was named after the charismatic footballer Socrates who captained Brazil in the 1982 and 1986 World Cups.

The bearded Greek ace is believed to have fought a battle with booze and fags from early doors and has tragically passed away at the age of 2,480.

The intelligent Socrates was admired for his surging thoughts from deep lying positions and his ability to 'play in the hole' behind the more logical Plato.

As a mark of respect, 90 minutes of silence is to be observed at all football grounds next saturday, so that fans across the country can consider the Socratic contribution to the field of ethics.

Robbie Savage has dedicated his Brazilian Samba on Strictly Come Dancing to Socrates and personal tributes have been flooding in from fellow pros.

QPR philosopher Joey Barton has described Socrates as a #deepthinker and has retweeted Socrates' aphorism that "The only true wisdom is knowing you know nothing."

Chelsea captain John Terry has denied calling Socrates a fucking Greek cunt.
